The hike through the pristine Kathandeni forest starts at the Mount Kenya Kathandeni Forest Gate, following an initial well-paved forest road before taking a detour into small footpaths in the woods. The trail then leads to the gently flowing Nyamindi River, where a delicate balancing act of crossing on a large log awaits. This riverine trek culminates in a stunning three-tier waterfall—the ultimate reward for the day. After enjoying some quiet time snacking on the river bank, the same path is taken back.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Meet up in Nairobi for an early departure to Kathandeni Forest Gate in Kiamutugu. The hike begins at 9:00 AM, leading through pristine forest roads and footpaths, crossing the Nyamindi River, and culminating in a stunning three-tier waterfall. Enjoy quiet time by the waterfall before a mandatory turn-back at 1:30 PM and departure for Nairobi in the late afternoon.
